Te mapa
Port Said was founded in 1859 when work began on the Suez Canal, and the city still reads as a product of that project. It sits on a narrow strip of land between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake Manzala, with the canal forming its eastern edge. The street network is largely a regular grid, laid out for a new port town.
Across the canal lies Port Fuad, a twin town on the Sinai side linked to Port Said by ferries. The canal entrance, with its long breakwaters stretching out to sea, is one of the most distinctive shapes on the map, and the harbour basins cut clean rectangular notches into the waterfront.
The older quarters near the harbour still hold nineteenth- and early twentieth-century buildings with wooden balconies, while newer districts spread west and south toward the lake. A Port Said map poster captures a place defined by maritime traffic, where the city grid, the canal and the open sea meet at one clear point.
The Suez Canal's northern mouth is framed by long breakwaters reaching into the Mediterranean, a strong linear feature at the top edge of the map.
The smaller town on the eastern bank faces Port Said across the canal, its own planned streets forming a counterpart to the main city.
The shallow lake to the west and south limits the city's growth, and its irregular shoreline contrasts with the straight grid of the streets.

Koteā ko Port Said
Port Said appeals to people who grew up by the canal, to sailors and engineers, and to anyone interested in the Suez route. The clean grid and the canal mouth make a composition that is both geometric and closely tied to the story of world shipping.
