Te mapa
Pra Loup lies in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, on the slopes above Barcelonnette in the Ubaye valley. The resort is split into two main bases at different altitudes, each a cluster of chalets and apartment buildings among larch and pine. From above, the map shows these two settlements linked by a road winding through forest, with lift lines rising toward the ridges that separate Pra Loup from neighbouring valleys.
The ski area connects over the ridge with La Foux d'Allos, forming a larger combined domain. In cycling history the climb to Pra Loup is famous for the 1975 Tour de France, when Eddy Merckx lost the lead to Bernard Thévenet on the final ascent. On a Pra Loup map poster that climb becomes a curving line leading up from the valley floor.
Below the resort, Barcelonnette sits on the flat floor of the Ubaye, a small town with a regular pattern of streets and a history of emigration to Mexico that left grand villas on its outskirts. The contrast between the orderly valley town and the scattered mountain villages above gives the map a clear structure from top to bottom.
The upper and lower villages sit at different heights on the slope. On the poster they appear as two distinct clusters joined by a road through the trees.
The valley town below follows an orderly street plan dating from its medieval founding. It gives the lower part of the map a crisp, rectilinear anchor.
The road from the valley to the resort winds up the slope in steady curves. It is the route of a famous 1975 Tour de France stage and a strong line on the sheet.
