Puliyankannu is a town in northern Tamil Nadu, in the area around Ranipet, west of Chennai. From above, it is a mix of older, denser lanes and newer residential streets laid out more regularly as the area expanded. Surrounding the built-up area are fields, water tanks and village roads typical of the plains of this part of the state.
The broad, sandy bed of the Palar river runs through this region, and the landscape is organised around it: irrigation tanks, canals and cultivated land stretch across the flat ground.
