Crayfish ponds
The surrounding countryside is divided into small rectangular ponds and paddies, many used for crayfish farming, forming a fine grid pattern across the map.

Te mapa
Qianjiang lies on the Jianghan Plain in central Hubei, one of the lowest and wettest landscapes in China. From above, the city is surrounded by a dense mosaic of rice paddies, fish ponds and drainage channels, many of them used for farming the crayfish that have made the city well known across the country. Water is everywhere on the map.
The urban area itself is compact and fairly regular, with wider modern avenues crossing older streets near the river. Qianjiang is also home to the headquarters of the Jianghan Oilfield, whose development shaped much of the city in the late twentieth century. It is administered directly by Hubei Province rather than through a prefecture.
A Qianjiang map poster is as much about the land around the city as the city itself. The countless small rectangles of ponds and paddies create an intricate texture, and the streets at the centre give it a focus, resulting in a detailed yet orderly composition.
The surrounding countryside is divided into small rectangular ponds and paddies, many used for crayfish farming, forming a fine grid pattern across the map.
Rivers and drainage canals cross the flat plain, their straight and curved lines connecting the city to the wider water network of the Jianghan Plain.
The Jianghan Oilfield has its headquarters here, and its residential and industrial districts are part of the city's modern layout.

Koteā ko Qianjiang
For people from Qianjiang, the map shows both the streets they know and the watery fields that define their home region. It is a detailed, quietly striking picture of the Jianghan Plain.
