Rāwatsār is a town in Hanumangarh district, in the far north of Rajasthan, where the edge of the Thar Desert meets irrigated farmland. The landscape around it is almost completely flat. On the map the town appears as a compact settlement, with a dense older core and newer blocks extending along the main roads that connect it to neighbouring towns.
Like much of this region, the area around Rāwatsār depends on agriculture. Over recent decades canal irrigation has changed the surrounding land, turning dry plains into cultivated fields.
