Te mapa
Riom lies just north of Clermont-Ferrand, where the flat, fertile Limagne meets the first slopes rising toward the Chaîne des Puys. From above, the old town stands out immediately. It is an almost circular knot of streets inside a loop of boulevards that follows the line of the former ramparts. Two main streets cross near the middle and divide the core into quarters.
Riom was once the seat of the dukes of Auvergne. Its Sainte-Chapelle, built for John, Duke of Berry, survives from the ducal palace, and the law courts now stand on the palace site. Many townhouses are built of dark volcanic Volvic stone. In 1942 the town gave its name to the Riom Trial, in which the Vichy regime prosecuted former leaders of the Third Republic.
A Riom map poster makes the most of that clear geometry. The ring of boulevards reads as a strong closed shape, and newer districts spread outward in looser patterns. At a wider zoom, the railway, the vineyards on the nearby slopes and the rise toward the volcanoes add texture to the western side of the sheet.
Tree-lined boulevards trace the old walls in a near-continuous loop. They make the historic centre one of the most legible shapes on the whole map.
Two principal streets cross near the heart of the old town and split the ring into quarters, a pattern that stays clear at any print size.
East of the town the land flattens into the broad Limagne, while to the west it climbs toward the Chaîne des Puys, so the sheet has two contrasting halves.

Koteā ko Riom
Riom appeals to people who like a map with an obvious form: a walled town you can recognise from across the room. It suits anyone who studied, married or grew up here, or who knows the Auvergne from long summers.
Add a name, a date or a short line in the subtitle, and adjust the coordinates line if you like. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The $9 download includes six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files, without watermark.
