Saint-Lin-Laurentides lies north of Montreal in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, on a plain that rises gently toward the Laurentian foothills. The municipality was formed in 2000 when the town of Laurentides merged with the parish of Saint-Lin. From above, a compact village centre sits among long, narrow farm lots that stretch back from rural roads in the old seigneurial pattern.
The town is best known as the birthplace of Sir Wilfrid Laurier, prime minister of Canada from 1896 to 1911 and the country's first francophone prime minister. A national historic site in town commemorates his life and early years. The L'Achigan River winds through the municipality, and much of the surrounding land is still farms, woodlots and quiet country roads.
A Saint-Lin-Laurentides map poster brings out Quebec's distinctive rural geometry: long, thin lots lying side by side, crossed by straight roads and the winding river. Newer residential streets curve in loops around the historic centre, so the composition balances order with gentle movement.
Long, narrow land divisions run back from the rural roads in parallel strips. This pattern, inherited from New France, gives the map a striking linear rhythm.
The river winds across the municipality in loose curves, softening the straight lines of fields and roads with a natural shape.
The older core, with its church and main streets, forms a dense knot at the heart of the map, surrounded by newer residential developments.
