Te mapa
Schifferstadt sits in the Vorderpfalz, the low, level stretch of the Upper Rhine plain between Ludwigshafen and Speyer. From above, it has a dense core of short, irregular streets with later residential blocks around it, all set among long, narrow fields. No hills bend the roads here. The pattern comes from old village lanes, farm tracks and, most of all, the railway.
The railway is the strongest line on the map. Schifferstadt is a junction where the line toward Speyer leaves the main route, and the tracks cut decisively through the town, with only a handful of crossings joining the streets on either side. Around the edges, the vegetable fields of the Palatinate come right up to the houses, and the built area ends cleanly instead of fading into sprawl.
The town is best known for the Golden Hat of Schifferstadt, a Bronze Age ceremonial gold cone found in a nearby field in 1835 and now kept in the Historical Museum of the Palatinate in Speyer. A Schifferstadt map poster shows the quieter side of that story: the plain where it was found, the lanes that grew up around it and the ordinary layout of a Palatinate town.
The main line and the branch toward Speyer meet here. Their tracks are the most decisive strokes on the map, running through the residential streets in long, sweeping lines.
At the centre, the streets turn short and irregular, a trace of the farming village that came before the railway. The small, tightly packed blocks show as a darker knot in black and white.
Past the last houses, narrow strips of cultivated land run in parallel bands. They give the edges of the poster the fine, striped texture typical of the Palatinate plain.
