Secondigliano lies on the northern edge of Naples. It was once a separate comune, a farming village on the road north from the city, and was absorbed into Naples in 1926. The old village core is still visible on the map as a knot of narrow streets along its main axis.
Around that core, the twentieth century added large residential blocks, wide roads and housing estates, so the quarter today mixes tight historic lanes with big modern forms. Major roads and the ring roads of the Naples area pass nearby, framing the district and linking it to the rest of the metropolitan area.
