Te mapa
Shoreline sits directly north of Seattle, between Puget Sound and Lake Washington's watershed. It incorporated as a city in 1995. From above, the city is a mostly regular grid of residential streets, cut north to south by two big corridors: Aurora Avenue, the old State Route 99, and Interstate 5 further east.
The western edge faces Puget Sound. At Richmond Beach, the streets drop down wooded bluffs to the water and the railway along the shore. The Interurban Trail follows a former rail line through the middle of the city, and parks and ravines, such as Hamlin Park, break up the residential blocks.
A Shoreline map poster shows the contrast between the ordered grid and the natural edge of the Sound. Light rail stations opened along I-5 in 2024 and are gradually reshaping the eastern side of the city, so a map made today records a city that is still changing.
In the northwest, the grid gives way to bluffs, winding roads and a shoreline railway, where the city reaches Puget Sound.
Old Highway 99 runs straight north through the city, the historic commercial spine, with the Interurban Trail running close by.
Wooded parks and stream valleys interrupt the residential grid and form green patches between otherwise uniform blocks.
