Simi Valley lies at the eastern end of Ventura County, just over the hills from the San Fernando Valley. From above, its shape is immediately clear: a long, relatively narrow valley running east to west, surrounded by the Santa Susana Mountains to the north and the Simi Hills to the south. The Arroyo Simi runs along the valley floor, and the Ronald Reagan Freeway follows it.
Most of the city is residential, with curving streets, cul-de-sacs and large parks filling the valley and climbing into the foothills. Simi Valley is home to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, set on a hilltop on the western side of the city. The surrounding hills and open space have also served as a filming location for many films and television westerns.
