Te mapa
South Burlington lies directly south and east of Burlington, in Chittenden County, Vermont. Its map is unusually varied for a small city. There is a short stretch of Lake Champlain shoreline to the west and the Winooski River along part of the northern edge. Interstate 89 crosses the middle, and the runways of Burlington International Airport take up a large share of the land.
South Burlington developed around roads rather than a single historic downtown. Shelburne Road and Williston Road carry shops and offices, and residential neighbourhoods of curving streets and cul-de-sacs fill the spaces between them. In recent years the city has been building a walkable new centre, City Center, along Market Street, which shows as a denser patch in the street pattern.
A South Burlington map poster has quiet green edges too. Red Rocks Park sits on a wooded point above the lake, and farmland and open space remain to the southeast, where the land rises toward the Green Mountains. At a wider scale, the city and Burlington read together as one lakeside settlement split by a boundary you cannot see.
Burlington International Airport lies within the city, and its crossing runways form the largest geometric shape on the map, a striking contrast to the curving residential streets.
The city's short lakefront, including the wooded headland of Red Rocks Park, gives the western edge a natural, irregular outline against open water.
Shelburne Road and Williston Road run outward as long arteries, and much of the city's growth is organised along them. They show on the poster as denser strips.
