Te mapa
Surakarta, widely known as Solo, lies in Central Java beside the Bengawan Solo, the longest river in Java. The land is flat, set between the volcanoes Merapi and Merbabu to the west and Lawu to the east, and the city spreads evenly across it. On a map the river curves along the eastern edge, a clear boundary to the dense grid of streets.
At the centre lies the Kraton Kasunanan, the palace of the Susuhunan, flanked by two large open squares, the northern and southern alun-alun. To the north-west, the Mangkunegaran Palace forms a second royal compound. Running east–west through the city, Jalan Slamet Riyadi acts as the main boulevard, a long straight line that ties the palace districts to the newer neighbourhoods further west.
Solo is one of the two historic court cities of Central Java, alongside Yogyakarta, and is known for batik, gamelan and classical Javanese dance. Pasar Klewer, beside the palace, is one of the largest batik markets in Indonesia. A Surakarta map poster shows how the old royal plan still structures the modern city, from the palace squares to the riverbank.
The northern and southern alun-alun form two broad rectangles on either side of the Kraton, the clearest open spaces in the dense city centre.
The main boulevard runs straight across Solo from west to east, a strong horizontal line that organises the city and leads toward the palace district.
Java's longest river curves around the eastern side of the city, forming a soft natural edge against the regular grid of streets.

For people from Solo, and for anyone who has studied batik, gamelan or Javanese culture there, this map is a quiet reminder of a city with strong traditions. Its palace-centred plan gives the print a clear sense of order.
