Świecie Map Poster & Print
Świecie lies in northern Poland, where the Wda River flows into the Vistula. The map shows two levels. The old site sits on low ground near the confluence, while most of the modern town stands on the higher terrace above the valley. Streets run along the edge of the escarpment and down its slope, following the shape of the land.
The lowland part is exposed to floods from the Vistula, and over time much of the town moved uphill. Down by the rivers, the remains of a castle built by the Teutonic Knights still stand, including a tall tower that is visible from far away. Around it, the flat floodplain is marked by old channels, meadows and embankments.
Świecie is also known as an industrial town, home to one of the largest paper and pulp mills in Poland, located on the edge of town.
