Tamansourt is one of Morocco's villes nouvelles, a new town started in the mid-2000s on the plain northwest of Marrakesh to take pressure off the growing city. Its map looks nothing like an old medina. Wide, straight boulevards divide the ground into large sectors, and each sector is filled with repeated blocks, small squares and planned open spaces.
Because it was designed rather than grown, the town has a geometry that reads clearly from above: long avenues meeting at roundabouts, clearly marked districts, and reserved land where construction has not yet filled every plot. Around it, the flat Haouz countryside stretches out toward the mountains on the horizon.
