Thāsra is a town in the Kheda district of central Gujarat, on the fertile, low-lying plain between Ahmedabad and Vadodara. From above it is a tight cluster of lanes and buildings, with roads heading out to nearby villages and a flat patchwork of fields reaching to the horizon on every side.
This part of Gujarat is farming country, watered by rivers and irrigation, and the Mahi river passes not far from the town. The ancient Galteshwar temple, at the meeting of the Mahi and Galti rivers, lies within the wider Thāsra area and is one of its best-known places.
