Te mapa
Tirmitine lies in the hills of Kabylie, in the province of Tizi Ouzou in northern Algeria. Rather than a single dense town, the area reads on a map as a network of settlements strung along ridges and slopes, joined by winding roads that follow the contours of the land instead of any grid.
This is typical of the Kabyle countryside, where villages traditionally sit on high ground and farmland, orchards and olive trees occupy the slopes below. On a black-and-white map the result is a web of fine lines, with clusters of buildings appearing like small knots wherever the roads meet on a crest.
A Tirmitine map poster has an organic, almost hand-drawn quality because so little is laid out in straight lines. The curving roads trace the relief without any shading, so the hills become visible through the streets alone. It makes a thoughtful piece for anyone with roots in Kabylie who wants a map of home rather than a generic landscape.
Built-up areas gather along the higher ground, forming small, irregular clusters that give the map a scattered, rhythmic pattern rather than one central mass.
Roads switch back and curve with the slopes, and their winding lines reveal the shape of the hills even on a map without terrain shading.
Between the villages the map is left largely open, a reminder of the farmland and olive groves that fill the spaces between settlements in Kabylie.

Koteā ko Tirmitine
Many families from Kabylie live far from their home villages, in Algiers, in France or further away. A map of Tirmitine keeps the familiar roads and hamlets in view and gives the place its due on the wall, whether in a family living room or a first apartment abroad.
Personalise it with a title in your preferred spelling, a subtitle naming a village or a year, and the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white and Noir to Paper, Blueprint and Sand, as a $9 set of HD files or as a printed poster.
