Te mapa
Tissemsilt is the capital of the province of the same name in northwestern Algeria, set on high ground near the Ouarsenis massif. From above, the town shows a fairly regular central grid, extended by newer residential districts, with roads climbing into the hills and dropping toward farmland in the lower basins around it.
During the colonial period the town was known as Vialar, and parts of the older centre still follow the straight streets laid out then. The Ouarsenis, one of the highest ranges of northern Algeria, dominates the surrounding landscape, and the province also includes the cedar forests of Theniet El Had National Park.
A Tissemsilt map poster balances the orderly town plan with the more irregular country around it. Streets follow a clear pattern at the centre, then give way to winding mountain roads and field tracks. In black and white, the contrast between planned grid and natural terrain is sharp and easy to read.
The older part of town is laid out on straight, crossing streets, a clear and regular pattern that forms the natural focal point of the map.
Residential areas have spread outward around the original centre, adding larger blocks and curving roads that extend the town's footprint across the high ground.
Roads leave Tissemsilt toward the Ouarsenis massif, winding more as they climb, a sign on the map of the mountainous country beyond the town.
