Torrox is in the Axarquía, the eastern part of the province of Málaga, and has two distinct halves. Torrox pueblo is the old village on a hill a few kilometres inland, with narrow streets packed closely around its church. Torrox Costa is the newer resort area along the Mediterranean shore, with apartment blocks, a beach promenade and a lighthouse.
The map shows both halves and the valley that links them. The inland village is a dense cluster of short, winding lanes that follow the slope. The coast has longer streets running parallel to the beach. Between them, a road climbs through terraced farmland. Torrox is often promoted for its mild year-round climate, and Roman remains have been found near the lighthouse.

Roman remains
Archaeological remains from the Roman period have been found near the lighthouse, showing that people have lived on this coast for a very long time.
