Troy is the county seat of Pike County in southeastern Alabama, set in gently rolling country of farmland and pine woods. The town centre follows a classic Southern plan, with streets arranged around a courthouse square. From there the grid extends outward, becoming looser as it reaches residential neighbourhoods, highways and the open countryside.
The largest feature on the map is Troy University, whose campus forms a distinct area of curving drives, parking lots, sports fields and buildings. It gives the town the character of a college community, with student housing and services concentrated nearby. Highways passing the town connect it to Montgomery and to the Gulf Coast region further south.
A Troy map poster shows the classic relationship between a small Southern town and its university: the tight grid of the old centre on one side, the looser campus layout on the other.
