Te mapa
Ulanhot is the seat of Hinggan League in the east of Inner Mongolia, near where the Mongolian grasslands meet the foothills of the Greater Khingan range. The Tao'er River flows past the city, and on a map its channels and floodplain form a broad natural edge. The urban area spreads over the flat ground beside it, with low hills rising on other sides.
Until 1947 the city was known as Wangyemiao. That year the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was proclaimed here, and the city briefly served as its first seat of government. The name Ulanhot means red city in Mongolian. Today the city has wide, straight avenues and large planned blocks, typical of Chinese cities that have grown quickly.
On a hill within the city stands a temple dedicated to Genghis Khan, built in the 1940s and recognisable by its white walls and green domes. On the map it appears as a patch of green rising from the grid. An Ulanhot map poster draws the city between river and hills, with its avenues, parks and temple hill all clearly legible.
The river and its floodplain run along the city in a wide band of channels and islands. This band contrasts with the straight avenues of the urban area.
Broad, straight roads divide Ulanhot into large blocks. The clear geometric pattern reflects the city's modern growth and reads strongly at poster scale.
The Genghis Khan temple stands on high ground within the city. The parkland around it forms a distinct green patch among the surrounding streets.

Koteā ko Ulanhot
Ulanhot holds a special place in Inner Mongolian history. For people from the city or from Hinggan League, a map of its river and avenues is a direct link to home, and the minimal style keeps the focus on the landscape.
