Te mapa
Ulm sits on the north bank of the Danube, directly across from Neu-Ulm in Bavaria, so the river is both a city edge and a state border. From above, the old town is a dense cluster of streets around the minster, with the small river Blau splitting into channels through the Fischerviertel before it joins the Danube. Bridges link the two cities across the water.
Ulm Minster has the tallest church steeple in the world, reaching about 161 metres, and its square is the centre of the old town. Albert Einstein was born in Ulm in 1879. The fishermen's and tanners' quarter, with its narrow lanes, half-timbered houses and water channels, is one of the most distinctive parts of the historic centre.
An Ulm map poster shows the city's structure clearly: the Danube curve, the compact old town, the Blau channels and the grid of Neu-Ulm across the river. In black and white, the meeting of two rivers and two cities becomes an elegant composition. It suits anyone who has studied, worked or lived here, or climbed the minster tower.
The Danube separates Ulm from Neu-Ulm, with bridges crossing between them and a clear contrast between the old town and the other bank.
The small Blau river runs in several channels through the Fischerviertel, where narrow lanes and water weave together before meeting the Danube.
The streets of the old town gather around the minster and its open square, the central point of the historic city on the map.
