Te mapa
Uzhhorod is the westernmost regional centre of Ukraine. It lies in Zakarpattia, right on the border with Slovakia and close to Hungary. The Uzh River runs through the middle of the city and divides the historic centre from districts built largely in the twentieth century. On a map the river is the clearest line in the composition.
The old town climbs toward the castle hill, where Uzhhorod Castle overlooks a tangle of narrow, curving streets. Nearby, a district of orderly blocks and functionalist buildings recalls the interwar years, when the city belonged to Czechoslovakia and served as an administrative centre. Pedestrian bridges cross the river, stitching the two banks together.
Along the river runs the linden alley on the Kyiv Embankment, often described as the longest in Europe, and in spring the city is known for its blossoming sakura trees. An Uzhhorod map poster captures the gentle curve of the river, the dense old centre and the parks along the banks, a city of human scale among the foothills.

Uzhhorod Castle stands on a hill above the old town, where narrow streets wind upward around it in an irregular pattern.
The linden-lined Kyiv Embankment follows the river for a long stretch. This green line along the water is one of the city's best-known walks.

Koteā ko Uzhhorod
In recent years Uzhhorod has become home to many people from across Ukraine, while others carry it with them from abroad. A map of the city marks a place of shelter, study or family, drawn with the quiet clarity the river and the old streets suggest.
