Te mapa
Whistler Blackcomb sits in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, about two hours north of Vancouver along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. On a map, Whistler and Blackcomb mountains rise on either side of Fitzsimmons Creek, with Whistler Village laid out at their base as a network of pedestrian streets. Along the valley floor, a chain of lakes and Highway 99 run north to south.
It is the largest ski resort in North America by skiable area, with more than two hundred marked runs. The Peak 2 Peak Gondola, opened in 2008, links the two mountains high above the valley and set records for its long unsupported span. During the 2010 Winter Olympics the alpine skiing events were held on Whistler Mountain at Creekside.
A Whistler Blackcomb map poster holds more than most resort maps: the curving village lanes, the valley lakes, Highway 99, the Creekside base and the lift networks on both mountains. The Peak 2 Peak line across the valley adds a single, graceful stroke that holds the composition together. It suits larger sizes, where the lakes and residential streets have room to breathe.
The long gondola line between Whistler and Blackcomb crosses the Fitzsimmons Creek valley in one nearly straight stroke. It is the most recognisable line on the poster.
The car-free village centre winds between the base areas in a network of pedestrian streets and plazas. It forms the densest and most detailed part of the map.
Alta Lake, Green Lake and several smaller lakes lie along the valley floor beside Highway 99, giving the lower part of the composition a series of calm water shapes.
