Woodburn sits in the flat heart of the Willamette Valley, roughly midway between Portland and Salem. Seen from above, the town is a compact street grid near the railroad, with newer subdivisions curving outward. Interstate 5 passes along its eastern side. The city has an unusually diverse population for a place its size. A large share of residents are Hispanic, many with roots in Mexican farming communities, and the area is also home to Russian Old Believer families who settled nearby in the twentieth century.
