Te mapa
Yemanzhelinsk lies south of Chelyabinsk, on the flat forest-steppe east of the Ural Mountains. It grew in the 1930s as a coal-mining settlement in the Chelyabinsk brown-coal basin, and its map reflects that industrial origin: a planned centre of straight streets and apartment blocks, with districts of private houses and former mine sites spread around it.
Much of the surrounding land has been shaped by mining, and on the map this shows as irregular gaps, spoil areas and service roads that break up the pattern of fields. Railway lines serve the mines and link the town to the region, while the flat terrain lets streets run in long, uninterrupted lines.
The plain around the town is dotted with lakes and birch groves, which appear as soft, rounded shapes against the geometric grid. A Yemanzhelinsk map poster brings out that contrast between planned industry and open landscape, a combination shared by many Ural mining towns yet arranged here in its own distinct way.
Straight streets and regular blocks of apartment buildings form the core, laid out in the mid-twentieth century as the town grew around its mines.
Former and working mine sites, access roads and disturbed ground leave irregular patterns around the town, a visible record of the coal industry on the map.
Nearby lakes and patches of birch woodland appear as softer, organic shapes on the open plain, in clear contrast to the grid of streets.
