Te mapa
Yotsutsuji lies in the Tango region of northern Kyoto Prefecture, far from the temples of the city of Kyoto and much closer to the Sea of Japan. The area is made up of narrow valleys between forested hills, and from above settlements appear as bands of houses and fields following the valley floors.
The Tango region has long been associated with chirimen, a textured silk crepe woven in local workshops, and weaving shaped the economy of many small communities here. The landscape is typical of rural Japan, with rice paddies filling flat land and roads keeping close to rivers and hillsides.
A Yotsutsuji map poster frames this valley geography with restraint. The line of the main roads, the small grid of lanes, the edges of the hills and the open fields between them combine into a calm image, very different from the dense city maps of Japan.
Houses and lanes line the flat valley floor, while the surrounding slopes remain largely empty, giving the map a clear, elongated shape.
Paddies fill the level ground between houses and hills, visible on the map as open space divided by small farm roads.
The area belongs to the Tango region, known across Japan for chirimen silk crepe, a craft that shaped many of its villages.
