This Yuxi lies in the western part of Chongqing municipality, in the hill country that stretches toward the Sichuan Basin. It is a small place, and on a map it appears as a compact cluster of streets surrounded by farmland. Here the landscape, not the town, sets the overall pattern.
The terrain is made of low, rounded hills cut by small streams. Roads rarely run straight for long. They bend around slopes, follow the edges of fields and link scattered hamlets to the town center.
