Te mapa
Zaragoza stretches along the Ebro in the middle of Aragon's dry valley. The old town hugs the southern bank, where the Roman colony of Caesaraugusta once stood, and the Puente de Piedra crosses to the north side. Beyond the historic core the city expands in wide avenues and planned districts, contained by ring roads that circle it at increasing distances.
Two landmarks sit close together near the river: the Basílica del Pilar, with its tiled domes and towers, and the cathedral of La Seo. A little west is the Aljafería, an eleventh-century Islamic palace. For Expo 2008, a whole meander of the Ebro at Ranillas was turned into a riverside park and exhibition site.
A Zaragoza map poster is organised by the river. The Ebro curves through the centre, the Canal Imperial de Aragón traces a separate line to the south, and the ring roads provide a set of outer frames. It is a clear, balanced design with a strong sense of centre.
The river runs directly past the old town, with the Basílica del Pilar on its bank and several bridges connecting the historic core to the northern districts.
A tight loop of the Ebro west of the centre, reshaped for Expo 2008 into parkland and exhibition buildings, now clearly visible as a rounded green lobe.
Concentric beltways encircle the city, giving the map an orderly outer structure that frames the dense centre and the newer districts.
