Te mapa
Zhaoqing lies on the north bank of the Xi River, the West River, in western Guangdong, before the river flows on toward the Pearl River Delta. The old walled centre sits close to the water, and a riverside road follows the bank for several kilometres, giving the southern edge of the map a long, clean line.
Just north of the centre lies Star Lake, a wide sheet of water divided by causeways, with the Seven Star Crags rising from it as a cluster of limestone peaks. The lake and crags form a scenic park that takes up a large part of the urban area. Further northeast, the forested slopes of Dinghushan, one of China's first nature reserves, begin.
Zhaoqing has long been known for Duan inkstones, carved from local stone and prized by calligraphers. In 1583 the Jesuit Matteo Ricci settled here, establishing one of the first Jesuit missions in mainland China. A Zhaoqing map poster brings together the river, the lake with its crags and the compact old town between them.
A large lake divided into several sections by causeways and bridges fills the ground north of the centre, forming the biggest area of water after the river itself.
Seven limestone peaks rise from the lake in a loose arc, their outlines appearing as small islands and headlands within the water on the poster.
The broad Xi River runs along the southern edge of the city, with a long embankment road tracing the shore and bridges reaching across to the far bank.

Koteā ko Zhaoqing
Zhaoqing is a city people come back to, for the lake, for family or for weekends away from Guangzhou. A map of its water and crags is a quiet reminder of a place that feels spacious in a crowded province.
