Zolder is part of the municipality of Heusden-Zolder in the Belgian province of Limburg. From above, the landscape mixes residential streets, woodland and patches of heath, with the Albert Canal running not far to the south and the traces of the former coal-mining industry still visible in the layout of the area.
The town is best known for Circuit Zolder, a motor-racing track set among the woods, which hosted the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix several times. Its twisting loop is one of the most recognisable shapes on any map of the region.
