Euphrates through the centre
The river divides the city into two halves, and the streets on either side follow its course. It is the line around which the entire map is composed.

关于地图
As Samawah Map Poster & Print
As Samawah is the capital of Muthanna Governorate in southern Iraq. The Euphrates flows through the city, dividing it into two parts linked by bridges, and a thin band of palm groves and farmland follows the river. Beyond that green strip the land turns quickly to desert, and Muthanna is one of the largest and most sparsely populated governorates in the country.
The city lies close to some of the oldest urban sites in the world. The ruins of Uruk, known today as Warka, stand in the desert to the east, a city often linked with the early development of writing. The unusual Sawa Lake, a saline lake with no visible river flowing in or out, lies in the desert nearby.
An As Samawah map poster is organised around the river. The Euphrates runs across the composition in a gentle curve, the city's blocks press close to both banks, and roads lead out in straight lines into empty ground. The contrast between the dense river city and the open desert gives the design a stark, graphic quality.

Bridges
Crossings over the Euphrates link the two banks at intervals, drawing short, bold strokes across the water and tying the halves of the city together.
Desert edges
Beyond the narrow strip of farmland, the map empties into open land with only a few straight roads, framing the city in wide, quiet space.
