Badagara Map Poster
Badagara, now officially Vatakara, lies on the Malabar coast in the Kozhikode district of northern Kerala. As with many towns along this coast, the map is organised by the sea. A long sandy shoreline marks the west, and the national highway and the coastal railway run inland, roughly parallel to it. The town itself stretches out between these lines.
Between the main roads and the shore, the street pattern breaks up into small lanes, house plots and palm groves, with rivers and backwaters meeting the sea in places. The area is historically linked to the old Kadathanadu region and to the Vadakkan Pattukal, the northern ballads of Kerala. On a map, the town has no single core. It reads as a band of settlement running along the coast.
