Blacksburg Map Poster & Print
Blacksburg sits on a plateau in the New River Valley of south-west Virginia, between the Blue Ridge and the ridges of the Alleghenies. The map is dominated by two shapes: the small grid of the original town, laid out in 1798 as sixteen squares, and the much larger spread of the Virginia Tech campus immediately to its west.
Virginia Tech, founded in 1872 as a land-grant college, has become the town's defining feature, and many of its buildings are faced in the grey limestone known locally as Hokie Stone. At the heart of campus lies the Drillfield, a large oval lawn ringed by a single road, easy to pick out from above as a clear, empty shape.
