Borken Map Poster & Print
Borken is the seat of the district of the same name in the western Münsterland, close to the Dutch border. Its historic centre is compact and nearly round, the outline of the medieval town walls still visible in the ring of streets that encloses it. The small river Aa flows past the old town, and from above the curve of the ring against the river makes the town instantly recognisable.
A few remnants of the old fortifications survive, including towers from the town wall, and the church of St. Remigius stands at the heart of the centre. Beyond the ring, Borken spreads into residential neighbourhoods, business parks and farmland typical of the Münsterland, a landscape of scattered farmsteads, hedgerows and cycle paths. Roads radiate out from the centre toward neighbouring towns and the Dutch border, while the river valley adds a green corridor through the map.
