Bostānābād is a town in East Azerbaijan Province in northwestern Iran, on the main road corridor that connects Tabriz with Tehran. It lies at high elevation on the eastern side of the Sahand massif, a large volcanic mountain whose slopes and streams shape much of the landscape around the town.
From above, the town is compact and fairly regular. Its main streets meet near the centre, and newer blocks have been added along the approach roads. Orchards and gardens appear around the edges alongside open farmland, fitting for a name that means roughly 'place of gardens'.
