Brugge Map Poster & Print
Brugge's historic centre forms a clear oval on the map, surrounded by a ring canal that follows the line of the old city walls. Inside it, narrow streets wind between canals, the reien, which cut through the city in irregular curves. Outside the ring, the pattern changes to wider roads, suburbs and railway lines.
In the Middle Ages the city was one of the great trading centres of northern Europe, connected to the sea by an inlet that later silted up. Much of its layout survives from that period. The Markt, with its belfry, and the Burg square sit at the heart of the oval. The streets radiate outward toward the old gates, several of which still stand on the ring.
The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Minnewater lake at its southern end is one of its best-known views. A Brugge map poster captures the city's most recognisable shape: the water ring, the canals running inside it and the dense medieval street pattern they enclose.

Narrow canals wind through the old town between houses and gardens. Their irregular curves are the most characteristic lines in the city plan.
Markt and Burg
The two main squares sit at the centre of the oval, with the belfry beside the Markt. Streets radiate from them toward the old city gates.
