Burgos Map Poster & Print
Burgos grew along the north bank of the Arlanzón river in northern Castile. From above, the historic centre is a compact knot of irregular streets packed between the river and the castle hill. The cathedral sits in the middle of it. Wide promenades, including the Espolón, run along the water, and bridges lead to newer districts on the south bank.
The Gothic cathedral of Burgos is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the city is a major stop on the Camino de Santiago. It is also linked to El Cid, the medieval knight buried in the cathedral. Nearby, the archaeological sites of Atapuerca have made Burgos a centre for the study of human evolution, with a museum by the river.
