Bury Map Poster & Print
Bury lies north of Manchester in the valley of the River Irwell. The river winds along the western side of town, and the centre sits on higher ground just to the east. Around it, rows of Victorian terraces follow the slopes. Wider suburban streets and green spaces lead out toward the Pennine moors to the north.
The town is best known for Bury Market, a large traditional market that draws visitors from across the region, and for its black pudding. Sir Robert Peel, the prime minister who founded the modern police force, was born here, and his statue stands in the centre. Bury is also the end of a Metrolink tram line and the base of the East Lancashire heritage railway.
