Chesterfield Map Poster & Print
Chesterfield lies in northeast Derbyshire, between the Peak District and the industrial towns of South Yorkshire. On a map, the centre is a compact cluster of old streets around a large market place, with roads radiating outward into the valleys of the Rivers Rother and Hipper and toward the hills to the west.
The town is known for the crooked spire of the Church of St Mary and All Saints, which twists and leans noticeably. The spire is visible from far around the town and has become its symbol. Nearby, the open-air market, one of the largest in England, has been held in Chesterfield for centuries.
George Stephenson, the railway pioneer, spent his last years in Chesterfield and is buried in the town. The Midland Main Line passes the centre, and the station lies just below the spire.
