Danai Map Poster & Print
Danai, also spelled Tanai, lies in the Hukawng Valley of northern Kachin State in Myanmar, one of the country's most remote lowland basins. On the map the town is compact and linear. It follows the main road and the course of the river, with forest and cleared land spreading out on every side.
The road through Danai follows the route of the Ledo Road, built by the Allies during the Second World War to link India with China. Today the valley is better known for amber and gold mining, and for the Hukaung Valley tiger reserve, one of the largest protected areas in Asia.
A Danai map poster is dominated by natural lines: the meandering river, the channels and oxbows on the valley floor, and the long thread of the road cutting through. The settlement itself is modest, a short grid of streets that reads as a small, deliberate mark in a very large landscape.
