Compact old core
The centre is a close grid of compounds and narrow lanes, and at poster scale it forms a dense, finely textured block that contrasts with the open plain.

关于地图
Dikwa Map Poster & Print
Dikwa lies in Borno State, in northeastern Nigeria, on the wide plain that drains toward Lake Chad. It holds a notable place in regional history. At the end of the nineteenth century Rabih az-Zubayr made it his capital, and afterward it served for a time as the seat of the Shehu of Borno.
On a map Dikwa is a dense, compact settlement set in a very open landscape. The town has a tight core of irregular lanes and compounds, a few roads leading out toward neighbouring towns, and then flat land in every direction. Seasonal watercourses and farmland mark the plain.
A Dikwa map poster reflects that sense of scale. There is a small, closely built centre and a great deal of quiet space around it. The poster suits people with family ties to the town and the Dikwa Emirate, and anyone interested in the history of the Lake Chad region.

Roads across the plain
A few long roads leave Dikwa toward the surrounding towns of Borno. They are the only strong lines crossing the flat country around it.
The open plain
Around the settlement the map is almost empty. The flat Sahelian land slopes gently toward the Lake Chad basin to the northeast.
