Radiating roads
Several main routes lead out of town across the plains. They form the framework of the map, and smaller streets fill the spaces between them.

关于地图
Gumel Map Poster & Print
Gumel is in Jigawa State, in the dry north of Nigeria, not far from the border with Niger. The land around it is broad and mostly flat, and there are few rivers or hills to break the street pattern. The town reads mainly through its roads. A handful of main routes lead outward, and a denser weave of lanes and compounds fills the space between them.
Gumel is the seat of a traditional emirate, and its older quarters reflect the compound-based layout common in northern Nigerian towns, with enclosed plots set along narrow lanes. Newer districts tend to be more regular and are laid out along straighter roads. The contrast between the two is easy to see on a map.
A Gumel map poster turns this Sahelian settlement into a clear graphic. The fine grain of the older town sits against the plainer lines of later growth, and the open country beyond fades to white. It is a quiet, honest portrait of a place seldom seen in print.

Older compound quarters
Irregular lanes and closely packed plots mark the older parts of town. On the poster they have a finer, more intricate texture than newer areas.
Open Sahel edge
Beyond the built-up area, the land is almost empty on the map. This sets the town apart clearly against the surrounding plain.
