Yamagata Airport
A long, straight runway cuts through the farmland. It is the most geometric feature on the map and hard to miss.

关于地图
Higashine Map Poster & Print
Higashine lies in the Yamagata Basin, in a flat valley between mountain ranges. The map shows a modest urban centre surrounded by a fine pattern of rice paddies and orchards, crossed by country roads. The Mogami River runs along the western side. In the middle of the farmland, the long, straight runway of Yamagata Airport stands out clearly.
The city is famous for cherries. The Satonishiki variety, now one of Japan's most prized cherries, was developed in Higashine, and orchards cover a large part of the surrounding land. An ancient keyaki tree in the grounds of a local elementary school is celebrated as one of the largest zelkova trees in the country.
A Higashine map poster captures rural Japan at a fine scale. The paddies form a delicate grid, the orchards a softer texture, and the town's streets gather in between. The straight line of the runway adds an unexpected modern accent to a landscape otherwise defined by farming and seasons.

一张有意义的地图
Higashine speaks to people from Yamagata, anyone who has picked cherries there in early summer and travellers who have flown in over its patchwork of fields.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, in English or with a family name. The map comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. It is available as a digital HD file or a printed poster.
