Icchannūr lies in northern Kerala, inland from the Malabar coast in the wider Kozhikode area. As in much of this part of the state, the settlement has no sharp edge. Houses sit on their own plots among coconut palms and garden trees, and a web of narrow lanes links them. The result is a continuous, softly built landscape rather than a compact town.
From above, the pattern looks fine-grained and organic. Main roads carry traffic toward Kozhikode and nearby towns, and smaller paths branch off them in every direction, following low ridges and the lines of paddy land and streams. Kerala's closely spaced villages and towns often merge into one another, and this place is a good example of that.
