Jangheung sits in the southern part of Jeollanam-do, where the Tamjin River bends through a basin of low mountains before running on toward the sea. On a map the town reads as a tight cluster of streets hugging the water, with the river tracing a clear line through the centre and the surrounding hills pressing close on every side. It is a small place, and its outline shows it plainly.
Beyond the built-up core, the drawing opens into a pattern of valley roads, field boundaries and forested slopes. Upstream, the Jangheung Dam holds back a long reservoir that curls between the ridges, a shape that looks almost like a second river folded back on itself. To the south, the land thins out toward the indented coastline of the Korean southwest, with its bays, inlets and scattered islands.
A Jangheung map poster captures that balance between a modest town grid and the larger landscape it depends on. The river, the reservoir and the mountain ridges all register as strong lines in black and white, while the town itself stays small and legible. The region is known in Korea for Cheongwansan, a peak whose slopes turn silver with pampas grass each autumn.
