Kalleribhāgam lies in the coastal lowlands of southern Kerala, a few kilometres inland from the Arabian Sea. Like much of this part of the state, it is less a compact town than a continuous spread of homes and gardens. On the map its streets form a loose, branching web rather than a clear centre with defined edges.
Kerala's lowland landscape is shaped by water. Canals, backwater lagoons, ponds and low-lying paddy fields all sit close together, and roads weave between them on slightly higher ground. On paper the result is a pattern of curving lanes and scattered water bodies. The housing tucked beneath the coconut palms simply appears as quiet space.
