Kasangulu lies in Kongo Central province, just beyond the southwestern edge of Kinshasa. The main road toward Matadi and the Atlantic passes close by, and the town has grown along it and across the surrounding hills. From above, the pattern is informal and organic. Lanes follow the terrain instead of a planned grid.
Its position makes Kasangulu a place of movement between the capital and the lower Congo region. Daily life revolves around farming, trade with Kinshasa's markets and travel along the road. The landscape is hilly and green, with small streams cutting through the valleys. Houses fill the gentler slopes, while steeper ground stays open.
