Kifrī is a town in northeastern Iraq, in the area between the Diyala plain and the foothills that lead up toward the Kurdish highlands. On a map it is a compact settlement in dry, open land. Its streets form a dense core, and roads branch out toward neighbouring towns. Low ridges nearby break up the plain and give the terrain some structure.
The town lies in a district whose administrative status has long been debated between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region. Its population is mixed, and the town has served as a local market and service centre for the surrounding farmland.
