Killannur lies in Thrissur district in central Kerala, a short distance from the city of Thrissur. From above it does not read as a compact town. Houses sit singly or in small clusters under a heavy canopy of coconut palms, and the lanes that link them twist and branch without any obvious plan.
The map shows the pattern typical of this part of Kerala: a few firmer roads carrying traffic towards Thrissur, and between them a fine mesh of narrow ways following old plot boundaries and the gentle rise and fall of the laterite ground. Open patches mark paddy land and ponds, and they break up the built fabric.
